SUPPORT CONSTRUCTION WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT EDUCATION:
HELP MAKE CAPITAL COLLEGE & CAREER ACADEMY A REALITY

Picture
Picture
Despite the overwhelming need our industry has for this type of school, the SCOE Board is not assured in granting our application. They have the unprecedented and extraordinary requirement that CCCA demonstrate industry support of the proposed school through industry financial contributions in excess of $250,000 (which equates to 25% of their year one budget) and a demonstrative show of industry and community support. (Note that no other charter school has been required to provide this support in their application to SCOE.)

We are asking our members to do the following:

HOW YOU CAN SUPPORT CONSTRUCTION WORKFORCE EDUCATION IN SACRAMENTO COUNTY

1.Letters of Support to the Sacramento County Office of Education
Letters of support are needed from individual construction companies for Capital College & Career Academy leadership to provide to the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) prior to our hearing on September 28.

Letters should be addressed to your Sacramento County Office of Education Board Trustee. The chart below will help identify the trustee for your area. (If you are not a Sacramento County resident, address your letter to Trustee Karina Talamantes, the SCOE Board President.
Your letter of support need not be long, but should contain some or all of the following points:
  • Company Name supports the establishment of Capital College & Career Academy and asks the Sacramento County Office of Education to approve the charter application.
  • Construction companies are experiencing shortages of skilled tradespeople in all areas (which has been exacerbated by the COVID pandemic)
  • For every five journeymen who retire from their trade, only one apprentice is entering the pipeline
  • The Sacramento region is one of the nation’s top five markets for construction job growth, ensuring good careers for students pursuing the construction trades
  • For too long, high schools have focused solely on student admission to college, despite student interest, financial ability or academic achievement. CCCA will provide a rigorous construction and college admission instruction that gives the student a choice of career paths that ensure success.
  • The realization of Sacramento’s economic promise was becoming a reality prior to the pandemic, and the region needs to invest in the workforce that can return us to the path of success.
When completed, please send your letter to kdobson@capcca.org.

2.Submit a public comment online starting September 24.
Visit the SCOE webpage for the September 28th Board meeting at this link. Under the Documents section, select the notice for the 9/28/21 Public Hearing. A page will open up with the Zoom link for the meeting and a link to submit a public comment online.

3.Invite members of your professional and personal network to send a letter and submit a public comment of support
Forward this information to your coworkers, colleagues, family and friends. Broad community support is highly desirable!

4.Watch the SCOE Hearing on September 28.
The Capital College & Career Academy Board of Directors thank you for your support!
